What To Do When the Heat Goes Out03/08/2017Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little bad luck, but we sometimes see heat pump troubles in Plainfield during the winter time, when they’re needed the most to keep you toasty. While you know the team at PWA Heating & Cooling Inc will constantly be there ASAP when you need us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to ensure a repair is important and save yourself some money if it’s not. We’ve collected this checklist of things to try before you give us a call. It may sound strange, but make sure everything is set to “on”. We’ve been to more than a few calls only to realize the thermostat or the heat pump itself is turned off. Check your thermostat to make sure it’s on, fixed to the proper temperature and isn’t fixed to cool. Then try changing the battery, if it has one. If everything looks right, check your furnace switch (check your manual if you’re not sure where it is) and inspect your fuses and circuit breaker. Double check that your gas is on. If the furnace still hasn’t turned on, return to your thermostat. If it’s a programmable model, make sure it’s revealing the correct time. If it thinks it’s morning when it’s actually night, it may not turn your heat on because it doesn’t understand that you’re home. Is an obstruction causing your furnace to not work? Check your air filters to make sure they’re not blocking things up. Do you have any congested ducts, vents or cool air intakes? Are all supply registers open? Is your exhaust flue open? If you’ve gone through this checklist and you’re still deprived of heat, call PWA Heating & Cooling Inc at 815-768-6656 or schedule an appointment online and we’ll get your home back to the welcoming and cozy place it should be.
